With the release of A Storm to the Savage, quite a few background changes have also come to pass...
If you are not subscribed to the newsletter you may have missed the latest in terms of social media. There is a likelihood that the Armadaverse will be quitting Facebook. The hitherto under-used Armada Wars Twitter account will now publish all announcements. This web site remains the best source for all Armadaverse news and information. There is also now a linktr.ee account which will be kept up to date with the sites/pages which are active and or useful. Over the past couple of weeks, the paperback editions have been quietly migrated from Createspace to Kindle Direct Publishing. This means faster and simpler delivery (now fulfilled by normal Amazon means), and full Prime availability. The opportunity was also taken to make some tiny tweaks to the content and covers.
Amazon OneLink is now being rolled out across the site. This system means that you only have to click one button to go and find a particular Armada Wars book on your local Amazon store — Amazon works out for itself what geographical region you are in, and routes you accordingly.
The system is being implemented for Kindle edition links, paperback links, and some audiobook links. At the moment it's up and running for readers in the USA, the UK, and Canada. People from other regions can click the same link to use the Amazon.com site, or choose from the regional links which are still listed. One known issue is that OneLink doesn't always register your region on the first click, and sends you to Amazon.com regardless of where you are. Subsequent clicks seem to be handled correctly. Presumably this is a bug that Amazon is working on already. ![]() From Shattered Stars is now fully available in both Kindle eBook and paperback formats! As well as buying outright or borrowing for Kindle, you can now purchase the paperback edition to line up with your other lovely paper copies. This paperback is in the same format as the other current books, with one small new feature: some elements of the front cover wrap around onto the spine. See the FSS page for links to your preferred Amazon site. ![]() It has begun! The Kindle edition of From Shattered Stars is arriving now, for those lucky readers who live in Australia or use the Australian Kindle store. As midnight hits in the time zone for each regional Kindle storefront, the book will become available for download there. If you pre-ordered, and your device is connected, it will appear by fricking magic. Handy things to know: If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read for free. You only have a few days before the prices change across the board! The paperback edition is expected to land on the store and on Amazon before the end of June. ![]() Independent writing is not particularly profitable, and it takes a great deal of time. If you want to help guarantee the future of this series, and ensure that books keep coming according to the great big game plan, there are some ridiculously powerful things you can do:
As you probably know this whole series is produced independently, without any backing from a publisher, agent, or marketing firm. It relies mostly on your word of mouth to generate interest amongst potential new readers! You are the best chance it has of continuing and growing. In the same way that Limewire and other services used to be full of fake files, back in the days when broadband and peer-to-peer sharing first appeared, the modern web is full of honeypots which are intended to excite you, seduce you, and then exploit you. This happens because pirates are not fun. Viewed from any angle, they are c**ts. ![]() Here is the cultural idea of a fun pirate. He does look fun, doesn't he? He sails the high seas looking for adventure, for no particular reason, and his income is derived from the chance discovery of gold doubloons which were left laying about the place in wooden chests, presumably by his forebears. At some point he probably helped some unstuck-in-time children to find their lost dog Max. He's a terrific guy. Shame he's an utter fiction. Read on to find out more. The shiny new versions of the paperbacks are now available across Amazon. There was some kind of issue populating Steal from the Devil on the UK site, but this is now fully resolved.
Amazon is selling off remaining stock of the previous versions in some instances. You can be sure you are getting the latest version by checking the relevant book page in this site's novel section: you can follow the links to see each book on Amazon (all the links here point to the latest versions), and ensure the ISBN numbers and cover styles match what is shown on this site. The most notable differences on the new paperback covers are (a) the author line is no longer in italics and (b) the "Armada Wars" line appears above the book's title, like it does on the Kindle versions. Kindle updates were released today for all the current Armada Wars novels: Steal from the Devil, List of the Dead, and The Ravening Deep. The changes include updated front and back matter, tidying, improved spacing around some elements, drop-caps at the start of chapters, and a few spelling and punctuation tweaks. If you haven't already upgraded, Steal from the Devil will also be updated to the recently released third edition, which includes some new material. If you have automatic updates turned on you will probably find the updates have been delivered already. if not, just go to your Amazon account and navigate to "Kindle > Manage your Content and Devices" to send the updates. As you may have gathered from a previous post, the current paperbacks of the Armada Wars novels are undergoing a slight evolution.
For one thing, the matte effect covers are being replaced by traditional glossy covers. The proofs have arrived today and I have to say they look much better — colours are rendered more accurately and consistently, text layout and appearance has been improved, the "Armada Wars" title from the Kindle editions has been added, and they generally just look smashing. Those paperbacks are populating to Amazon right now. The other big news is that Steal from the Devil will be entering its third edition with this iteration. Unlike previous revisions, this one will add some new text: some dialogue, some prose, some inner thoughts. And a few minor tweaks and corrections of course. This update will also be issued to Kindle customers. Finally, as was mentioned in the previous post, this update marks the end for the larger and more expensive "standard editions". |
