OverviewKelvestyr is a very harsh world.
It is the location of the Imperial Combine's famous Imperial War College, an institution entirely dedicated to producing the finest possible soldiers, pilots, and intelligence agents. Kelvestyr shares very few similarities with Earth. Even after a considerable period of terraforming it is one of the most visually uninteresting occupied worlds when seen from space. It is largely rocky, with moderately sized polar ice caps and sparse cloud cover. The planet does not endear itself to the Empire's civilian population. Its bad-tempered weather systems, lacklustre mineral resources, ubiquitous dust, and absence of native life forms make it both dull and economically uninteresting. Since there is no native life on Kelvestyr all food products — or their constituent ingredients — must be imported or grown under controlled conditions. Kelvestyr is the ideal location for the Imperial War College. As well as being able to use hundreds of square miles of terrain for live fire exercises and combat drills, the Empire considers Kelvestyr to be a 'safely hostile' training environment for cadets from every military quarter. The rocky, unappealing, and generally unpleasant environments provide a range of adverse conditions against which to pit trainee recruits, without constantly exposing them to extreme levels of risk. A large portion of the population of Kelvestyr comprises the thousands of students of the War College, as well as the faculty staff and their families. Kelvestyr also hosts some small towns which mainly comprise geological survey projects, as well as civilian support services contracted to supply the military installations. There are no cities to speak of. As well as the War College, the Empire also maintains several munitions factories and a listening post on Kelvestyr, all of which require maintenance and supply. The system has its own gate and nexus, and it is the default mustering point for the Imperial Navy's Fourth Fleet. |
Recorded Events
Although it was hardly any great revelation, Lamis Throam told Elm Caden that her son Rendir trained on Kelvestyr (→TRD).
Elm Caden mentioned the stringent controls for people arriving at Kelvestyr, in the context of preventing Blight infections (→FSS).
Bruiser was informed by his friend Kan that he should not go to Kelvestyr because it was just "a rock". This was later confirmed by Major General Reldon Konnega when he described the CAGA training Bruiser would undergo there (→FSS flashbacks).
