Herros is one of three barren terrestrial planets, orbiting a pale yellow star just inside the Deep Shadows which fall between the Orion and Perseus arms of the galaxy.
Herros is the location of Gemen Station, a covert Imperial Combine research facility which came under attack in 3745 ELC. That was the only artificial structure on the surface at the time, and no evidence of any other buildings has ever been found, archaeological or otherwise. There is no gate in the system, and therefore no nexus. The extreme distance between Herros and the nearest inhabited system would make any single-wormhole journey there very dangerous indeed, and damaging to all but the toughest battleships. Anyone wishing to investigate the system would have to travel there by making a series of smaller jumps. While Gemen Station was still operating, communications between the facility and the rest of the Imperial Combine network would have been mediated by one of the starships tasked with patrolling the system interior. Herros has no native life, and the thick atmosphere is toxic to aerobic organisms such as humans. Seen from space it has the appearance of a muddy green ball. When Gemen Station's staff went missing, and after Elm Caden's investigation at the facility, the planet briefly hosted a large number of forensic investigators and holo interrogation specialists. Everything of value or interest was removed from Gemen at that time. Since those people left, the planet has remained entirely uninhabited. |
Recorded Events
Elm Caden travelled to Herros to investigate the silence of Gemen Station. It was there that he found Amarist Naeb. Although he did not know it at the time, Naeb had helped to orchestrate the infiltration of the station at the behest of Voice (→SFTD).
While on Herros, Elm Caden experienced a powerful audio-visual hallucination of the Emptiness (→SFTD).
Sensor data collected near Herros by Woban Klade allowed him to create an alert which would sound when a dreadship was close to the ICS Hammer (→SFTD).
On Lopama, while assaulting Forge Ruinous, Elm Caden saw containers bearing a three star emblem. He and Rendir Throam had seen this emblem at Gemen Station, when they first visited Herros (→FSS).
