OverviewSerrofus Major is a planet in an Imperial Combine-controlled star system on the Sagittarius arm of the galaxy.
The planet itself is relatively Earth-like, with oceans, seas, continents, and islands. The dominant plant species however are of low nutritional value to humans, many of them are outright toxic, and there are also aggressive fungal strains found all over the planet. Because of these factors Serrofus Major is at the top of the class two category. When the Serrofus planetary system was discovered by the Empire, the major planet was already home to an intelligent, indigenous species which called itself Mastalekt. Imperial Combine citizens now typically refer to the Mastalekt as "Serrofites". Like the Rodori, the Mastalekt were convinced to join the Imperial Combine as citizens, and allowed their planet to be annexed as a protectorate in return for access to the stars. As yet, however, very few Mastalekt have left the planet. There are no Mastalekt currently serving in any of the Imperial Combine's military or intelligence arms, and only a handful working for Life and Rescue. Vast tracts of land on the planet are given over to the cultivation of a particular type of weed. This plant has no nutritional or medicinal value, but is required by the Mastalekt for many of their cultural rites. Under the instructions of Proconsul Kalistine the sacred meadows where the native weed grows are being cleared out. A human contractor named Collis has been surveying the cleared areas with a view to laying in water lines and irrigation, which will allow Kalistine to extend the agricultural and urban development of his capital city. Proconsul Kalistine has a very low opinion of Mastalekt in general, and he treats them as second class citizens. His attitude and actions have led to the formation of various pressure groups in the capital city, many of which are devoted to the single aim of having a native citizen Raised by the proconsul. In March 3745 ELC Maber Castigon, Herik Pammon, and Collis all colluded — for reasons of their own — to stir up civil unrest by provoking tensions in the capital city. They were incredibly successful (→LOTD). Serrofus Major was one of many colony planets to receive support from CAGA ground troops in response to widespread civil unrest. The planet was then one of those targeted by the Shaeld Hratha with an Atmospheric Dispersal Warhead, a weapon capable of delivering a viral payload on a planetary scale (→TRD). |
