OverviewEuryce Eilentes is an extraordinary pilot and a talented sharp-shooter. Raised on the civilised but quiet world Kementhast Prime, she wanted for little as the child of a successful businessman.
Eilentes' family comes from the town of Villium. Her mother Maishan and father Westry liked to keep a traditional household, and it was not until she and her siblings came of the proper age that they respectively flew the nest. Euryce's older twin siblings both left the planet behind just as she did; Brex always knew he would join CAGA when he could, but Lasan's departure was less expected. She migrated to another Imperial world to live with her partner. Eilentes was fortunate in that neither her mother nor her father were swept up in the Perseus conflict. Her family owned a supply network and remained a very safe distance behind the lines during the entire war. Euryce was a happy child, and her parents encouraged her to follow in their footsteps. They were proud to enrol her in the Commerce Authority Piloting School at the age of sixteen Solars. As a child, Eilentes was obsessed with flight and all manner of flying machines, and her idol was noted formation pilot Roima Gotharom. She knew from a young age exactly what she wanted to do when she grew older: fly ships. It was her father who was responsible for kindling her lifelong interest in shooting. PersonalityEilentes is positive and friendly, calm and confident, with an optimistic outlook and habitual reliability. She has a tendency to set goals for herself which are all too often unachievable, and then blames herself when she fails to meet them. She can get frustrated when others fail to understand her.
She is outgoing and personable, and has no problem in making friends or striking up conversation wherever she goes. She can quickly work out the social dynamics between other people and seamlessly join them. Eilentes considers herself to have very middle-of-the-road moral beliefs. She is not given to extreme views and rarely makes snap decisions. Eilentes's mother was a Planetian, believing that intelligent life is the spiritual end product of every planet's evolutionary journey. This view is ridiculed throughout the Empire, and it was a source of some embarrassment to the family. It may have contributed to her parents having a period of separation. Due to the mockery she endured as a child over her mother's beliefs, Eilentes has eschewed formal religion. She does however have a certain vague sense that there is something else in the universe. Although she recognises them as a cultural cliché, Eilentes's words to live by are "seize the day". She is fond of the Rodori philosophy that everything outside the mind belongs to a universe that must be made to cooperate. Eilentes's political views are heavily influenced by the business concerns of her parents, and she sees the taxation policies of the Home Council as being necessary but over-zealous. Her view on the consular system of governance is that very little backbone is shown by local government when central policies have a large impact on daily life. AdversitySince she was a child, and first became enamoured of her hero Roima Gotharom, Eilentes knew she wanted to fly. Even after Gotharom's death at Capita Munduras — the scene of an infamous Perseus conflict ambush — Eilentes kept her childhood dream alive.
After she had actually achieved her goal, however, and had been promoted to the rank of Flight Operations Assistant on the Mabius Intersystems Cargo Ship Maidesvale, the reality of the environment began to settle in. She found herself climbing the bulkheads of the ship within a very short time, the gossiping prattle of the crew drove her mad, and the complicated and diplomatically bankrupt politics of shipboard relationships made her question her own sense of morality. It was not long before Eilentes transferred her skills to a career in the Imperial Navy, and she did not look back. But her career leading up to that point would leave her with permanent scars. Eilentes has not had the worst romance track record of all time, but she believes there is room for improvement. Her first 'serious' relationship with Danis on the MICS Maidesvale ended in disaster — although she would be the first to point out that she dodged a bullet there — and her ideal relationship with Rendir Throam on the ICS Embolden turned out to be less ideal for her than it was for him. Even when providence brought them back together, it turned out to be more of the same before descending rapidly into darker depths. EducationEilentes's mandatory education took place entirely at the Villium District School on her home planet of Kementhast Prime. At the age of 16 she was enrolled in the Commerce Authority Piloting School, where she graduated top of her class two Solars later. She then began her career in piloting. Within four Solars her skill had given her a reputation in the commercial sector, and she was accepted immediately when she applied for a ten-month bridging course at the Imperial Flight Academy. Less than a Solar later she was posted to the ICS Embolden.
Eilentes is very fast with mathematics and geometry, and she knows a great deal about engineering and astro-navigation. She is not very interested in literature or art, but has a good working knowledge of most of the alien species with which the Imperial Combine has regular contact. Her reasoning skills are sufficient for her role, but her deductive abilities fall far behind those of people such as Elm Caden. Military ServiceSoon after becoming disenchanted with working as a commercial pilot for Mabius Intersystems, Eilentes retrained and entered the ranks of the Imperial Navy. Her reputation now precedes her: she is known for quick and precise navigation, bold manoeuvring, and an ability to remain cool under fire.
She has recently gained her Emancipation Card, which allows her to select postings. This has given her the opportunity to work directly with a Shard, coincidentally bringing her back into contact with her ex-partner Rendir Throam. Caden has noted, after long periods of observation, that Eilentes is not comfortable with violence or gore appearing right in front of her. He has speculated — and she has agreed — that this is why she exhibits such a strong preference for ranged weapons. Notable Events
