OverviewMaishan Eilentes is the mother of Euryce, Brex, and Lasan Eilentes. She is the wife of Westry, with whom she resides on Kementhast Prime.
Maishan follows the Planetian faith, believing that all inhabited worlds have a conscious soul and that intelligent life is the spiritual end product of every planet's evolutionary journey. This is tolerated by most, although ridiculed at the same time across the whole Imperial Combine. Her faith is regarded by the rest of her family as a source of faint embarrassment, however it has never been a practical issue for them. Maishan prefers a quiet and traditional life. As well as her religious duties in the small but active Planetian community, she is the head of an extremely popular and productive community vegetable gardening project. Notable EventsMaishan's youngest daughter, Euryce, was particularly influenced by many of her beliefs and attitudes, and awarded particular significance to the saying "if you want to be truly needed, you have to shine". While it is debatable exactly how useful and healthy that advice is, it had a great positive effect on Euryce. The fully grown Euryce was less diligent when it came to emulating her mother's prudish views on sexual relations (→SFTD).
Mai's husband used to bring home pieces of discarded machinery or electronics he had found, believing they might have some practical or financial value. She disapproved of this immensely — the family needed neither the items themselves, nor the money they might fetch — and told him so regularly, to no avail. Maishan was complicit in the fiendish trick Westry played on Eury, going along with his pretence that some of the items he salvaged had once belonged to local legend Roima Gotharom (→TRD). In 3717 ELC there was an annual air-space vehicle show held at the Villium Grande Aerospace Centre on Kementhast Prime. With this being local to their home Westry and Maishan attended, taking their children Eury, Lasan, and Brex with them. There they watched an impressive display of both civilian and military craft being flown (→TRD). Not long after that event Roima Gotharom gave a free talk for residents of Villium, which was hosted one evening in the town's public square. After much negotiation between Euryce, Maishan, and Westry, Eury was allowed to attend the talk to hear her new hero speaking. Maishan did not hold Gotharom in as much esteem as did Westry, and complained that she could "talk about herself for hours" (→TRD). In 3722 ELC Westry returned home with Eury to find Maishan and their other children gathered around the house holo in a state of shock. News was breaking from the front lines of the Perseus conflict, and it transpired that a navy carrier called Gather in Thy Fellows had been ambushed by the Viskr at a colony world named Capita Munduras. Roima Gotharom had been one of the fighter pilots assigned to that ship, and was presumed dead along with the rest of the ship's company. Maishan had not intended for Eury to learn of the death so abruptly, and was unable to console her at first (→TRD). Some time after 3730 ELC Westry and Maishan welcomed their daughter Lasan back home gladly, after her relationship with Artho collapsed around her (→TRD). By the time Euryce Eilentes first headed to Forge Ruinous with Elm Caden and their other associates, in 3745 ELC, she had been unable to contact Maishan, Westry, or her twin siblings for some time (→FSS). |
