OverviewGuathelia is a terrestrial world on the Sagittarius arm of the galaxy. Once inhabited by an unknown sentient species — which either died out or abandoned the planet several centuries ago — it is now a relatively heavily-populated Imperial Combine colony world.
The capital city is surrounded by a number of market towns which serve to organise harvests from the bountiful grasslands and forests. Most of these towns are linked together by a transit system. The gold-green grasslands are so extensive that their overall hue influences the colour of some land masses as seen from space. Since many of the grass species growing on Guathelia are edible, it is speculated that their proliferation was likely directed by the previous occupants of the planet. Guathelia supports a complex native ecosystem, including many plant and animal species which are both edible and nutritious. Bird, fish, and insect species exist which are similar to their Earth counterparts in ecological function, if not in appearance. There are large numbers of small, nocturnal species. As mentioned above, Guathelia has a relatively well-developed ground transit system. The planet is served by a gate, and it has basic orbital platforms and a starport. Located some 60 km from the capital is a CAGA training facility called Camp Camillion. This was originally a fully operational base, but it is now used for training exercises only. Despite protests from Imperial archaeologists, the camp was constructed inside the perimeter boundary wall of an ancient fort belonging to the previous occupants of the planet. Notable Residents: |
Recorded Events
On 13th March 3745 ELC, the planet was attacked by an unknown enemy, now known to be the Shaeld Hratha. The ICS Vehement, in orbit at the time of the assault, was critically damaged and broke apart during an uncontrolled descent through the atmosphere. The capital's defences were bombarded from orbit, prior to a ground assault being made against every township on the surface. Survivors of the invasion noted that human civilians turned against their defending CAGA troops during the battles (→SFTD).
Within days of this initial assault the planet was peppered by large structures now known to be grounding splinters. These were investigated briefly by Junn Delanka, which prompted a swift response from the cordon of oddly behaved humans who appeared to be guarding them (→LOTD).
Guathelia was assaulted by the Imperial Navy and CAGA forces as part of Operation Keystone, which was intended to discover what precisely was happening on worlds which the Shaeld Hratha and their allies had occupied (→TRD).
