Commander Woban Klade was the first officer aboard the original ICS Hammer, prior to its destruction. He served in that ship as XO to Captain Aker Santani, and now performs the same role in the Hammer II.
Klade is most valued by Santani for his loyalty, discretion, good judgement, and even temperament.

Steal from the Devil
Klade has an excellent grasp of mathematics, and he can sort and categorise data very quickly.
He was the only person to notice the imprint of a dreadship's gravitational signature in sensor data collected by Hammer, and at Santani's request he devised an early warning alarm which would trigger if the same readings were ever detected again.
This alarm bought Santani and her ship valuable seconds during the Battle of Woe Tantalum. Although Hammer was forced to crash on the surface of the planet, many of the crew were saved as a result.

Klade was injured during that crash, and received emergency care in a field hospital set up on Woe Tantalum by Life and Rescue.
The Ravening Deep
Commander Klade was later deemed fit for duty, and he rejoined Captain Santani on the new Hammer II at Hepira Shipyards. He was instrumental in moving the yards out of harm's way during the invasion of the Herses system.
From Shattered Stars
Klade was present on the command deck of the Hammer II while it took part in the attempt to secure Damastion from an invading Shaeld Hrathan force. He spotted and identified the anomaly which would eventually lead the Imperial Navy to withdraw from the system.
