Burner is a Tanker serving in Downfall Company. He is a private in fire team One-Four Alpha, under Corporal Frane Harth, and fights alongside privates Haynis Rothrom and Bear Mtenga.
As a Rodori, Burner has the (disputed) Accepted name The Burning Flash of Envy's Escape. His pre-life name was Karnnel. For simplicity, and because he favours a flamethrower as his weapon of choice, his squad mates call him 'Burner'.
While he was known as Karnnel, on the Rodori colony world Naiaeg, Burner demonstrated envious, resentful, and spiteful behaviours. It is not yet clear whether these traits have survived into his adulthood.

Notable Events
Before we met him:
Burner's Accepted name has been an issue of contention with Bruiser, since Karnnel originally appropriated the name without passing through the required rites.
It was Bruiser who set Karnnel on a path to earn his Accepted name in a more traditional fashion, and — indirectly — to later join CAGA and train as a Tanker. Their encounter on the colony world Uccomir changed Karnnel's path profoundly (→FSS).
While still going by the name Karnnel, prior to his own rites of Acceptance and Personification, Burner was the Rodori responsible for tormenting Bruiser with artefacts from his pre-life. This mischief led inadvertently to the suicide of their sunshe-mother, Jewelled Entreat of Blessed Devotions (→FSS).

List of the Dead
Burner was present with the rest of his Tanker company during the Second Liberation of Mibes.
While on the surface of Mibes he again encountered Bruiser. The two of them had a short conversation which the humans present could not understand, and which their links declined to translate.
The content of that exchange is now known to be a series of pre-life names, presumably followed by ritualistic phrases. The links of the humans present would not have considered that block of speech immediately translatable, since the devices would have been unable to derive any meaningful context.

The Ravening Deep
Burner was also present during Operation Keystone, on the surface of Guathelia, and assisted Elm Caden by drawing the attention of Rasas away from the grounding splinters they guarded. He incinerated large numbers of them.
From Shattered Stars
During the attempted rescue of Viskr Junta cabinet members from the surface of Riishi, Burner was one of many Tankers to assault the surface in a Pale Horse mobile battle fortress.
He later assisted in the recovery of Caden and his team from the tropical botanical park surrounding the Junta's citadel, and was responsible for incinerating an unknown biological threat as the teams retreated.
Burner later fought a large contingent of dangerous thralls at Forge Ruinous, an imperial installation on Lopama.
He was also present for Operation Sabre, during which he took part in the amphibious beach landing on Palanda Ire and the subsequent invasion of the city of Arroch. He also took part in the breaking of the siege on Damastion.
