Overview
A quarantine network is a system of interlinked orbital weapon platforms, intended to deny access to a planetary body. It is used by the Imperial Combine to prevent unauthorised access to the following:
The weapon platforms in the network are independently controlled by onboard holo processors. They have a spherical field of offence, and primarily fire heavy sabot rounds which are launched from up to four powerful gauss guns. The platforms are able to defend themselves, and each other, with flash lasers and C-MADS turrets.
Every quarantine network has a unique series of heavily-encrypted control codes which can be used to stand down the system. Without this code, anything crossing the "red line" — even friendly ships — will be fired upon. The codes may be scrambled remotely to prevent enemy interference with the network's command protocols.
A recently established protocol allows three commanding officers to stand down a quarantine network even when the control codes are scrambled, providing they can supply a handshake from Fleet Command (→LOTD).
In 3745 ELC, Captain Aker Santani used the quarantine network around Woe Tantalum to attack an unknown dreadnought-type vessel, now thought to be a Shaeld Hrathan dreadship. Her own command, the ICS Hammer, was severely damaged as a result (→SFTD).
A few days later, Joarn Kages discovered that a quarantine network was being assembled in orbit of his home planet, Aldava. While attempting to rescue Kages, Occre Brant and Peras Tirrano witnessed the final stages of the network's construction (→LOTD).
- Populated worlds which are undergoing sanctions.
- Populated worlds on which there is an uncontrolled biological infection.
- Planets with a toxic or radioactive environment which would be lethal to visitors.
- Planets where the biosphere is so dangerous that there is essentially no good reason to attempt a landing.
