OverviewCommander Operations is an Imperial Navy role occupied by a person whose exact identity is not widely known. In the absence of firm confirmation of who exactly fills the role, many naval personnel refer to the holder of the post as 'he' or 'she', depending on their own particular leaning.
The identity of the person holding this post is guarded jealously by the naval high command, due to the risks to which the entire Imperial Combine might be exposed if an enemy power could identify the individual. The day-to-day duties of Commander Operations include responding dynamically and strategically to emerging threats, planning and resourcing naval operations, and coordinating active and historical intelligence with developing mission profiles. As such, any hostile agent wishing to disrupt or harm the Imperial Combine would almost certainly sacrifice significant resources in order to capture, kill, or mislead Commander Operations. Notable EventsCommander Operations has been responsible for a number of high-level tactical and strategic decisions during The Great War of the Shaeld, with significant victories taking place at both Guathelia and Palanda Ire (→TRD, FSS).
It was Commander Operations who gave Groath Betombe tactical control of the strategic counter-incursion known as Operation Seawall (→SFTD, LOTD). In concert with the Navy Command, the CAGA hierarchy, and Tanker Regiment, Commander Operations also planned Operation Keystone, which successfully gained temporary orbital superiority at Guathelia and enabled troops to be placed on the surface. As a result Elm Caden's team was able to gain access to Shaeld Hrathan grounding splinters, which was crucial for research purposes (→TRD). Commander Operations was also the mind behind the overall strategic manoeuvres of Operation Sabre, which allowed the colony world of Palanda Ire to be seized back from Voice. Because of that operation, which involved huge logistical problems and a high casualty rate, significant strides were made in understanding Voice's plans (→FSS). |
