A new category was sneaked into the Universe section this week, and it adds eighteen Technology articles! This section will be under continuous development, with more entries being made as more technology is revealed in upcoming releases. Also this week... the book pages were all given a makeover to remove clutter, improve appearance for mobile devices, add images for external destinations like Amazon and Audible, and introduce a touch of per-book colour theming. It's that time! The title of the fifth novel in the current Armada Wars series is now announced as...
Whom Gods Shall Fear. The title is fitting for the end of the Great War of the Shaeld story, with apocalyptic undertones hinting at the collision of every one of the major themes which have caused so much creeping fear in the preceding books. There will be no spoilers whatsoever for the next year at least, but one thing is certain: there's going to be trouble. It's been a week of news in the Armadaverse. If you're feeling shell-shocked, imagine how I feel.
Along with everything else added to the site this week, I sneaked on the details pages and synopses for the two novellas which will expand the fourth full novel, From Shattered Stars. These are: Whereas the novella expanding The Ravening Deep is intended to explore one of the core mysteries of the novels, in quite personal ways, these two novellas will be more action-oriented. They will take a closer look at two of the groups operating within the Imperial Combine: intelligence field agents, and Tankers. You will probably pick out hints from their synopses about what is coming in the last two novels. It's been two and a half years now since Steal from the Devil first came into the public arena, and a lot has happened since then. Reading back, it's easy for me to spot quirky little annoyances, or see things which could have been used more fully to portend future events. I've therefore made a number of changes to the book, which collectively constitute an upgrade to the Third Edition (but don't worry — I've not gone all George Lucas on it). This edition will be available as a Kindle update and a new paperback within about a week (see yesterday's blog article about the new editions), and it is already available as the default Kindle version for new customers. The editorial changes are as follows:
As you may have gathered from a previous post, the current paperbacks of the Armada Wars novels are undergoing a slight evolution.
For one thing, the matte effect covers are being replaced by traditional glossy covers. The proofs have arrived today and I have to say they look much better — colours are rendered more accurately and consistently, text layout and appearance has been improved, the "Armada Wars" title from the Kindle editions has been added, and they generally just look smashing. Those paperbacks are populating to Amazon right now. The other big news is that Steal from the Devil will be entering its third edition with this iteration. Unlike previous revisions, this one will add some new text: some dialogue, some prose, some inner thoughts. And a few minor tweaks and corrections of course. This update will also be issued to Kindle customers. Finally, as was mentioned in the previous post, this update marks the end for the larger and more expensive "standard editions". The book page for the upcoming novella I Dream of Damastion now exists, and with it comes a summary of the plot.
Pre-order links and so on will arrive in due course, and you can expect the cover art reveal to happen some time in the next week. The proof for the paperback of The Ravening Deep arrived today, and it was absolutely fine. A few clicks later and it started populating on the Amazon store!
It's now available from all the usual regional Amazon sites, although on the France, Italy, and Spain sites it says — at time of writing — "temporarily out of stock". That message usually vanishes within an hour or two. All store links are now on the book page. It's here! The Ravening Deep has now gone live across all of the different regional Kindle stores. Customers who pre-ordered can now download their copy simply by switching on their registered devices, and new customers can purchase a copy normally through their usual Kindle store front. We are now officially past the halfway mark with this story! The next main sequence volume will tie up most of the sub-plots and answer a lot of questions, paving the way for an apocalyptic climax which can concentrate on the long-awaited revelations and those inevitable final battles. Exclusive to ArmadaWars.com, in this final month before the release of The Ravening Deep, the title of the fourth major volume in the current series has now been confirmed as From Shattered Stars.
Just as The Ravening Deep has two companion episodes coming, the fourth instalment will also be followed by two linked novellas. These will be: The third novel in the Armada Wars series — The Ravening Deep — is now available to pre-order in all Amazon Kindle regions. As previously announced on this blog, the pre-order price for The Ravening Deep will be £1.99 in the UK, $2.99 in the USA, and the equivalent prices in other regions. One month after the date of release, the normal sale price will take effect. This will be £2.99 in the UK, $4.99 in the USA, and the equivalent prices in other regions. The print length of The Ravening Deep is expected to be ~520 pages. Unfortunately the paperback cannot be pre-ordered, but it is expected to be released on or shortly after the eBook release date. |
