As mentioned yesterday on the Facebook page, there has been a universal update to all of the Armada Wars Kindle eBooks. The purpose of the update was to:
The new editions are a huge improvement over previous versions, and the eBooks have never looked so good. Read on to learn more! Those of you who keep a close eye on this news blog, the old site, and the social media channels will know that piracy — fake or otherwise — is a constant annoyance.
Two days ago an opening salvo was fired at 53 web sites and servers, all purporting to offer free copies of the Armada Wars eBooks. As of this morning, 42 of those offers are now either returning Error 404, or the pages have been permanently delisted by Google (which will go hand-in-hand with a big dip in search score for that site). It has begun! The Kindle edition of From Shattered Stars is arriving now, for those lucky readers who live in Australia or use the Australian Kindle store. As midnight hits in the time zone for each regional Kindle storefront, the book will become available for download there. If you pre-ordered, and your device is connected, it will appear by fricking magic. Handy things to know: If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read for free. You only have a few days before the prices change across the board! The paperback edition is expected to land on the store and on Amazon before the end of June. Independent writing is not particularly profitable, and it takes a great deal of time. If you want to help guarantee the future of this series, and ensure that books keep coming according to the great big game plan, there are some ridiculously powerful things you can do:
As you probably know this whole series is produced independently, without any backing from a publisher, agent, or marketing firm. It relies mostly on your word of mouth to generate interest amongst potential new readers! You are the best chance it has of continuing and growing. Encountered a term in an Armada Wars book and not sure what it means? Fear not. The brand new Glossary was added to the Universe section today.
The glossary is not yet exhaustive, but it does come quite close. It will of course continue to grow as new volumes are released in the Armadaverse, because every new book means new strange things with strange names. In the same way that Limewire and other services used to be full of fake files, back in the days when broadband and peer-to-peer sharing first appeared, the modern web is full of honeypots which are intended to excite you, seduce you, and then exploit you. This happens because pirates are not fun. Viewed from any angle, they are c**ts. Here is the cultural idea of a fun pirate. He does look fun, doesn't he? He sails the high seas looking for adventure, for no particular reason, and his income is derived from the chance discovery of gold doubloons which were left laying about the place in wooden chests, presumably by his forebears. At some point he probably helped some unstuck-in-time children to find their lost dog Max. He's a terrific guy. Shame he's an utter fiction. Read on to find out more. A new category was sneaked into the Universe section this week, and it adds eighteen Technology articles! This section will be under continuous development, with more entries being made as more technology is revealed in upcoming releases. Also this week... the book pages were all given a makeover to remove clutter, improve appearance for mobile devices, add images for external destinations like Amazon and Audible, and introduce a touch of per-book colour theming. If you're a regular visitor to the site you probably noticed these changes sneaking in over the past two weeks. If not, here they all are:
In the run-up to the delayed release of From Shattered Stars, many of you will no doubt be planning to re-read the first three books of the series. If you're reading on Kindle, or using the Kindle app on another device, then before you start you may wish to update to the latest versions.
Steal from the Devil and List of the Dead have only minor changes, however The Ravening Deep has some corrections which put right a very silly mistake that slipped into the battle for Ramm Stallahad. That sequence has now been fixed, and a number of other minor edits have been made to clarify sentences and paragraphs. All volumes have also had their back matter updated to reflect the delayed release of FSS. If you are uncertain about how to download the updated eBooks to your device, please refer to the final section of the FAQ page. All the updates are now available for existing customers. You will know if you have the latest versions by checking the back matter — the release date given for From Shattered Stars will have changed to 2017. It's that time! The title of the fifth novel in the current Armada Wars series is now announced as...
Whom Gods Shall Fear. The title is fitting for the end of the Great War of the Shaeld story, with apocalyptic undertones hinting at the collision of every one of the major themes which have caused so much creeping fear in the preceding books. There will be no spoilers whatsoever for the next year at least, but one thing is certain: there's going to be trouble. |
