The shiny new versions of the paperbacks are now available across Amazon. There was some kind of issue populating Steal from the Devil on the UK site, but this is now fully resolved.
Amazon is selling off remaining stock of the previous versions in some instances. You can be sure you are getting the latest version by checking the relevant book page in this site's novel section: you can follow the links to see each book on Amazon (all the links here point to the latest versions), and ensure the ISBN numbers and cover styles match what is shown on this site. The most notable differences on the new paperback covers are (a) the author line is no longer in italics and (b) the "Armada Wars" line appears above the book's title, like it does on the Kindle versions. Kindle updates were released today for all the current Armada Wars novels: Steal from the Devil, List of the Dead, and The Ravening Deep. The changes include updated front and back matter, tidying, improved spacing around some elements, drop-caps at the start of chapters, and a few spelling and punctuation tweaks. If you hadn't already upgraded, your copy of Steal from the Devil will also be updated to the recently released third edition, which includes some new material. If you have automatic updates turned on you will probably find the updates have been delivered already. if not, just go to your Amazon account and navigate to "Kindle > Manage your Content and Devices" to send the updates. It's been a week of news in the Armadaverse. If you're feeling shell-shocked, imagine how I feel.
Along with everything else added to the site this week, I sneaked on the details pages and synopses for the two novellas which will expand the fourth full novel, From Shattered Stars. These are: Whereas the novella expanding The Ravening Deep is intended to explore one of the core mysteries of the novels, in quite personal ways, these two novellas will be more action-oriented. They will take a closer look at two of the groups operating within the Imperial Combine: intelligence field agents, and Tankers. You will probably pick out hints from their synopses about what is coming in the last two novels. As you may have gathered from a previous post, the current paperbacks of the Armada Wars novels are undergoing a slight evolution.
For one thing, the matte effect covers are being replaced by traditional glossy covers. The proofs have arrived today and I have to say they look much better — colours are rendered more accurately and consistently, text layout and appearance has been improved, the "Armada Wars" title from the Kindle editions has been added, and they generally just look smashing. Those paperbacks are populating to Amazon right now. The other big news is that Steal from the Devil will be entering its third edition with this iteration. Unlike previous revisions, this one will add some new text: some dialogue, some prose, some inner thoughts. And a few minor tweaks and corrections of course. This update will also be issued to Kindle customers. Finally, as was mentioned in the previous post, this update marks the end for the larger and more expensive "standard editions". The proof for the paperback of The Ravening Deep arrived today, and it was absolutely fine. A few clicks later and it started populating on the Amazon store!
It's now available from all the usual regional Amazon sites, although on the France, Italy, and Spain sites it says — at time of writing — "temporarily out of stock". That message usually vanishes within an hour or two. All store links are now on the book page. It's here! The Ravening Deep has now gone live across all of the different regional Kindle stores. Customers who pre-ordered can now download their copy simply by switching on their registered devices, and new customers can purchase a copy normally through their usual Kindle store front. We are now officially past the halfway mark with this story! The next main sequence volume will tie up most of the sub-plots and answer a lot of questions, paving the way for an apocalyptic climax which can concentrate on the long-awaited revelations and those inevitable final battles. The Kindle launch of The Ravening Deep is just over a week away, so it's a good moment to have a quick rest and talk about what else is going to happen over the next few weeks and months. The Ravening Deep — PaperbackFirst and foremost, within a fortnight the paperback proof copy of TRD should be received and approved. It will then be on Amazon within a day, and linked to the Kindle version's product page a few days after that. Don't forget that the wildly inaccurate "estimated page count" for the Kindle version of TRD will be automatically corrected within about a week of the paperback and Kindle versions being linked. Don't forget you can pre-order The Ravening Deep for Kindle to benefit from 1/3 off the standard price! I Dream of Damastion — ScheduleKeyboard-bashing for IDOD will begin literally on January 1st 2016. It is due for a late February release date, which will be announced at the end of January.
Some development work has been done already, and the following details can now be revealed exclusively to this site:
Exclusive to ArmadaWars.com, in this final month before the release of The Ravening Deep, the title of the fourth major volume in the current series has now been confirmed as From Shattered Stars.
Just as The Ravening Deep has two companion episodes coming, the fourth instalment will also be followed by two linked novellas. These will be: The third novel in the Armada Wars series — The Ravening Deep — is now available to pre-order in all Amazon Kindle regions.
