Over the past couple of weeks, the paperback editions have been quietly migrated from Createspace to Kindle Direct Publishing. This means faster and simpler delivery (now fulfilled by normal Amazon means), and full Prime availability. The opportunity was also taken to make some tiny tweaks to the content and covers.
There have been yet more additions and improvements this weekend. Strap yourself in!
It's always good to know that people are visiting the site and poring over the information here, so feel free to comment.
From Shattered Stars is now fully available in both Kindle eBook and paperback formats! As well as buying outright or borrowing for Kindle, you can now purchase the paperback edition to line up with your other lovely paper copies. This paperback is in the same format as the other current books, with one small new feature: some elements of the front cover wrap around onto the spine. See the FSS page for links to your preferred Amazon site. It has begun! The Kindle edition of From Shattered Stars is arriving now, for those lucky readers who live in Australia or use the Australian Kindle store. As midnight hits in the time zone for each regional Kindle storefront, the book will become available for download there. If you pre-ordered, and your device is connected, it will appear by fricking magic. Handy things to know: If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read for free. You only have a few days before the prices change across the board! The paperback edition is expected to land on the store and on Amazon before the end of June. In the run-up to the delayed release of From Shattered Stars, many of you will no doubt be planning to re-read the first three books of the series. If you're reading on Kindle, or using the Kindle app on another device, then before you start you may wish to update to the latest versions.
Steal from the Devil and List of the Dead have only minor changes, however The Ravening Deep has some corrections which put right a very silly mistake that slipped into the battle for Ramm Stallahad. That sequence has now been fixed, and a number of other minor edits have been made to clarify sentences and paragraphs. All volumes have also had their back matter updated to reflect the delayed release of FSS. If you are uncertain about how to download the updated eBooks to your device, please refer to the final section of the FAQ page. All the updates are now available for existing customers. You will know if you have the latest versions by checking the back matter — the release date given for From Shattered Stars will have changed to 2017. The shiny new versions of the paperbacks are now available across Amazon. There was some kind of issue populating Steal from the Devil on the UK site, but this is now fully resolved.
Amazon is selling off remaining stock of the previous versions in some instances. You can be sure you are getting the latest version by checking the relevant book page in this site's novel section: you can follow the links to see each book on Amazon (all the links here point to the latest versions), and ensure the ISBN numbers and cover styles match what is shown on this site. The most notable differences on the new paperback covers are (a) the author line is no longer in italics and (b) the "Armada Wars" line appears above the book's title, like it does on the Kindle versions. It's been two and a half years now since Steal from the Devil first came into the public arena, and a lot has happened since then. Reading back, it's easy for me to spot quirky little annoyances, or see things which could have been used more fully to portend future events. I've therefore made a number of changes to the book, which collectively constitute an upgrade to the Third Edition (but don't worry — I've not gone all George Lucas on it). This edition will be available as a Kindle update and a new paperback within about a week (see yesterday's blog article about the new editions), and it is already available as the default Kindle version for new customers. The editorial changes are as follows:
As you may have gathered from a previous post, the current paperbacks of the Armada Wars novels are undergoing a slight evolution.
For one thing, the matte effect covers are being replaced by traditional glossy covers. The proofs have arrived today and I have to say they look much better — colours are rendered more accurately and consistently, text layout and appearance has been improved, the "Armada Wars" title from the Kindle editions has been added, and they generally just look smashing. Those paperbacks are populating to Amazon right now. The other big news is that Steal from the Devil will be entering its third edition with this iteration. Unlike previous revisions, this one will add some new text: some dialogue, some prose, some inner thoughts. And a few minor tweaks and corrections of course. This update will also be issued to Kindle customers. Finally, as was mentioned in the previous post, this update marks the end for the larger and more expensive "standard editions". You read that correctly — the lucky winners of this free prize draw will get a free paperback copy of the first Armada Wars novel, Steal from the Devil. The book will be shipped to winners direct from Amazon at our expense. Please note that entrants to this contest must have a residential address in the USA (Amazon's rule). UPDATE: The giveaway has now ended. It was a bloodbath, and lasted a whole 21 minutes before all of the prizes had been claimed. Keep an eye out for future giveaways! The proof for the paperback of The Ravening Deep arrived today, and it was absolutely fine. A few clicks later and it started populating on the Amazon store!
It's now available from all the usual regional Amazon sites, although on the France, Italy, and Spain sites it says — at time of writing — "temporarily out of stock". That message usually vanishes within an hour or two. All store links are now on the book page. |
