As you might have heard, every Armada Wars novel available on the Kindle platform now has X-Ray content available. But what is it? And where? Put simply, X-Ray content gives you a compact, dedicated database right alongside a Kindle book. It contains profiles for characters, significant terms, and definitions. It can add depth to the world of the book, provide you with a means of quickly refreshing your memory, and give you quick and simple explanations. The X-Ray system can show you all the terms or characters on a page, or for the whole book, ordered alphabetically or by relevance. It also generates "notability" scores for some content, and it picks out passages which might be of particular interest. All in all this is a feature that succeeds in combining functionality with entertainment, and when you're exploring an expansive and subtly detailed world like the Armadaverse it's an invaluable companion. It's available from the tool strip at the top of any Kindle's reading page, or in the book menu on mobile devices. All the X-Ray content in the Armada Wars novels comes straight from the source, and it is designed to be consistent and spoiler-free. Due to the character limit for X-Ray entries there are of course much more extensive articles on this site: the web site's entry on the Rodori, for example, is vastly more interesting than the abbreviated version found in X-Ray. But the idea is to give you a quick summary of what a Rodori is, right while you're reading. How to get the latest X-Ray content: Simply delete the Armada Wars novels from your Kindle reading device/s, and then download them again. That's literally all there is to it!
From Shattered Stars is now fully available in both Kindle eBook and paperback formats! As well as buying outright or borrowing for Kindle, you can now purchase the paperback edition to line up with your other lovely paper copies. This paperback is in the same format as the other current books, with one small new feature: some elements of the front cover wrap around onto the spine. See the FSS page for links to your preferred Amazon site. As mentioned yesterday on the Facebook page, there has been a universal update to all of the Armada Wars Kindle eBooks. The purpose of the update was to:
The new editions are a huge improvement over previous versions, and the eBooks have never looked so good. Read on to learn more! Those of you who keep a close eye on this news blog, the old site, and the social media channels will know that piracy — fake or otherwise — is a constant annoyance.
Two days ago an opening salvo was fired at 53 web sites and servers, all purporting to offer free copies of the Armada Wars eBooks. As of this morning, 42 of those offers are now either returning Error 404, or the pages have been permanently delisted by Google (which will go hand-in-hand with a big dip in search score for that site). It has begun! The Kindle edition of From Shattered Stars is arriving now, for those lucky readers who live in Australia or use the Australian Kindle store. As midnight hits in the time zone for each regional Kindle storefront, the book will become available for download there. If you pre-ordered, and your device is connected, it will appear by fricking magic. Handy things to know: If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read for free. You only have a few days before the prices change across the board! The paperback edition is expected to land on the store and on Amazon before the end of June. In the run-up to the delayed release of From Shattered Stars, many of you will no doubt be planning to re-read the first three books of the series. If you're reading on Kindle, or using the Kindle app on another device, then before you start you may wish to update to the latest versions.
Steal from the Devil and List of the Dead have only minor changes, however The Ravening Deep has some corrections which put right a very silly mistake that slipped into the battle for Ramm Stallahad. That sequence has now been fixed, and a number of other minor edits have been made to clarify sentences and paragraphs. All volumes have also had their back matter updated to reflect the delayed release of FSS. If you are uncertain about how to download the updated eBooks to your device, please refer to the final section of the FAQ page. All the updates are now available for existing customers. You will know if you have the latest versions by checking the back matter — the release date given for From Shattered Stars will have changed to 2017. If you're enjoying Armada Wars, you may also like The Calypsis Project by Canadian author Brittany M. Willows. The Calypsis Project is the first volume in a duology (with the second part, TCP: Rebirth, due soon), and will also get an additional prequel volume, TCP: Pulse. http://thecalypsisproject.com Kindle updates were released today for all the current Armada Wars novels: Steal from the Devil, List of the Dead, and The Ravening Deep. The changes include updated front and back matter, tidying, improved spacing around some elements, drop-caps at the start of chapters, and a few spelling and punctuation tweaks. If you hadn't already upgraded, your copy of Steal from the Devil will also be updated to the recently released third edition, which includes some new material. If you have automatic updates turned on you will probably find the updates have been delivered already. if not, just go to your Amazon account and navigate to "Kindle > Manage your Content and Devices" to send the updates. The web site has been lavished with attention this week. In the past day, the following changes have gone live:
It's been two and a half years now since Steal from the Devil first came into the public arena, and a lot has happened since then. Reading back, it's easy for me to spot quirky little annoyances, or see things which could have been used more fully to portend future events. I've therefore made a number of changes to the book, which collectively constitute an upgrade to the Third Edition (but don't worry — I've not gone all George Lucas on it). This edition will be available as a Kindle update and a new paperback within about a week (see yesterday's blog article about the new editions), and it is already available as the default Kindle version for new customers. The editorial changes are as follows:
