Gordl Branathes was the Eyes and Ears monitor responsible for all intelligence staff working from the Fort Kosling battle station. While his supervising invigilator was away from the Kosling system, seconded to a special project on Earth, Branathes was also temporarily responsible for all intelligence and counter-espionage operations within the entire Kosling system.
Branathes was bureaucratic, superficial, and cavalier, but believed himself to be an efficient and effective monitor. He considered his subordinates to hold him in high esteem, and was apparently oblivious to their true opinions of him.
In March 3745 ELC, Branathes represented the Kosling system at the Fort Herses gathering hosted by March Bel-Askis. Appearing by hologram, it was he who informed the gathered E&E Invigilators of Elm Caden's discoveries on the planet which came to be known as Echo (→SFTD).
Shortly after that meeting, Branathes was present when Doctor Vella Laekan discussed unusual brain scans with Occre Brant, which raised suspicions about the patient Amarist Naeb. He vetoed Peras Tirrano's suggestion that they kill Naeb (→SFTD).

After their transfer to Fort Laeara, Occre Brant and Peras Tirrano came to suspect that Branathes was a Rasa agent. Before they could do anything about this, he disappeared. He was later found on Meccrace Prime by Elm Caden, where he was attempting to locate Doctor Danil Bel-Ures. It rapidly became clear that Branathes was indeed a Rasa, and during this encounter Caden first made contact with the unknown entity he named Voice (→LOTD).
Voice gave the appearance of occupying Branathes' body, and he was accompanied by two large, camouflaged guardian organisms which Caden believed to be Shaeld Hratha. The body of Gordl Branathes was accidentally killed by gunfire while Caden was fighting the creatures (→LOTD).
